Stags Close Out Western New York Swing at Canisius

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will look for their first sweep of the Western New York trip in eight years when they take on the Canisius Golden Griffs on Saturday at 2pm. The Stags, who are coming off their best 3-point shooting performance in program history, were victorious in the previous meeting between the two schools last month at Alumni Hall.

Katie Armstrong and Lou Lopez-Senechal were a big reason for the historic shooting night as the duo combined to shoot 9-for-10 from behind the arc while tallying 47 points in a 77-65 win over Niagara. Armstrong was locked in from the get go as she recorded 15 points in the first half while hitting all three of her long range attempts. At one point, Armstrong hit nine of her first 10 attempts from the field as she connected on her first two attempts in the second half. Armstrong would finish with a team-high 24 points, going 10-for-13 from the field and a perfect 4-for-4 from 3-point range. Her 10-for-13 showing is tied for the 11th best single game field goal percentage in program history.

Lopez-Senechal was right on her heels as she finished with 23 points, her tenth-straight game in double figures. The sophomore hit key baskets late in the game, going 3-for-3 from long range in the second half, including a key 4-point play to put the Fairfield lead back to double figures.

Sam Kramer and Rachel Hakes led the passing attack with seven assists each. Kramer recorded her 250th career assist in the victory and now sits at 252.

The 69 percent shooting (11-for-16) from 3-point range is the best 3-point shooting percentage in program history, surpassing the 67 percent (12-for-18) set just last month against Manhattan. The Stags are the only team in the country to have two games this season shooting over 60 percent from deep while making at least 10. The 69 percent clip against Niagara is the sixth best performance this season in the nation with at least 10 makes.

Fairfield tallied at least 70 points for the fourth time this season where they are a perfect 4-0. Dating back to the 2010-11 season, the Stags are 32-1 when tallying at least 70 points.

With the victory over Niagara and Rider's loss to Saint Peter's, Fairfield will begin the game just one game out of first place in the MAAC as they hold a 8-2 record.

Canisius enters play with a 2-18 overall record and a 1-10 mark in the conference after nine-straight losses most recently to Iona on Thursday.

D'Jhai Patterson-Ricks is the team's leading scorer with nearly 16 points per game. AJ Timbers is their biggest threat from long range as she leads the conference making 50 percent (31-for-62) of her shots from distance.

The Stags were victorious 72-70 in the last meeting between the two schools last month with Kramer's last second jumper being the difference.

The Stags will end a three-game road trip when they travel to West Long Branch, N.J., to face Monmouth on Thursday at 7pm.
