Men's Basketball Hosts Siena On Sunday Afternoon

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University men's basketball team will continues its four-game home stand on Sunday afternoon when Siena College comes into Alumni Hall. The game is scheduled for a 2 pm tip.

The Stags won overcame a 15-point halftime deficit to defeat Niagara University on Friday night, the team's 11th win of the season. Taj Benning completed the comeback with his jumper in the lane that put the Stags up by a point with 11.1 seconds remaining. The Stags shot 57 percent from the floor in the second half (16 of 28), their best performance in a half since making a season-best 61 percent of their attempts (14 of 23) in the second half at Loyola Md. (November 17). The primary reason for their success came from their strong play in the paint, netting 36 of their 61 points inside the lane.

Allan Jeanne-Rose enjoyed the best shooting night for the Stags, netting 5 of his 7 field goal attempts on his way to a career-best 11 points. Benning finished the night with a team-best 14 points which marked the sixth time in the last nine game in which he was the team's top scorer. Vincent Eze was a force on the boards with 11 rebounds, including six offensive rebounds. The performance was Eze's third double-digit rebounding total of the season and first since he completed a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds at Wagner on December 28.

Landon Taliaferro continues to lead the team in scoring with 11.9 points per game followed by Jesus Cruz (10.9 ppg) and Benning (10.1 ppg). Eze raised his team-best rebounding average to 5.8 per game.

The Saints take to the road for the first time since opening a four-game home stand against the Stags on February 7. Siena swept the four-game set at the Times Union Center, improving its overall home record to 13-0 this season. The home stand also included victories against Rider, Manhattan, and Iona. Today's game starts a three-game road trip that also sends the team to Quinnipiac on Wednesday and Marist on Friday.

Against the Gaels, Elijah Burns made a pair of free throws with 2.3 second remaining to push his team to a 65-64 win. Burns, Manny Camper, and Jalen Pickett combined to score 58 of the team's 65 points as Camper paced the offense with 21 points, followed by Burns' 19 markers. Pickett completed a double-double with 18 points and a career-best 11 rebounds in addition to dishing off seven assists.

The victory sent the Saints into a first-place tie in the MAAC standings along with Saint Peter's until the Peacocks gained a half-game lead after their win on Friday night. Pickett leads the team in scoring with his 15.6 points per game and also sets the standard with his 5.8 assists per outing. Burns stands second among the scoring leaders by netting 14.8 points every forty minutes. Camper averages a double-double for the season with 13.9 points and 10.1 rebounds per contest.
