The Stags are coming off a hard-fought exciting victory at Monmouth as
Sam Kramer swished through the game-winning 3-pointer with 3.4 seconds left on the clock to give the Stags a 40-39 victory. Those were the only four seconds of the game that the Stags led as they struggled mightily offensively by shooting just 26 percent from the field. Fairfield trailed by two with under seven seconds to play before Kramer got the ball at the top of the key and connected on the biggest basket of the game.
Katie Armstrong was the lone reason why the Stags were still in the game as she would finish with a game-high 22 points, her third-straight game with 20 or more points. Armstrong netted 11 of the team's 15 first half points and 20 of their first 27. Armstrong had her biggest bucket of the game as she hit the game-tying 3-pointer with under two minutes to play. Armstrong went 8-for-22 from the field with the rest of the team combining to go 7-for-37.
The 40 points is the fewest ever scored by the Stags in a Division I victory. The last time Fairfield scored 40 or fewer points in a win was in 1974 when they defeated New Rochelle 39-29 in a Division III contest. The NCAA would introduce 20-minute halves the following season.
Katie Armstrong had her third-straight 20-point game as she becomes the first Stag since Baendu Lowenthal in 2009 to accomplish that feat. Ironically, Lowenthal's first three games in that streak were all on the road and started with the two Buffalo opponents. Armstrong is averaging 22.7 points while shooting 53 percent from the field and 58 percent (11-for-19) from long range.
Iona's mini two-game winning streak was snapped in their last outing against Monmouth, dropping a 56-50 decision to the Hawks. The Gaels had led by five with under two minutes to play before surrendering an 11-0 Monmouth run. Iona had previously swept their Buffalo trip for the first time since the 2016-17 season while averaging 65.0 points per contest on the trip.
Juana Camilion is the team's leading scorer with 11.1 points per game while Tori Lesko leads the team in rebounds at 5.2.
The Stags will hit the road again for their sixth road contest in their last eight outings when they face Saint Peter's on Tuesday at 7pm.
