FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will look to get back to their winning ways, but they will face a stiff test as they travel to Lawrenceville, N.J., to take on the Rider Broncs on Tuesday night at 7pm. The Broncs enter as the only remaining unbeaten team in conference play, supporting a 7-0 record in the midst of an 11-game winning streak.
The Stags had a long winning streak of their own that was snapped in their most recent game against the three-time reigning MAAC Champions Quinnipiac on Saturday. After
Rachel Hakes scored the game's first basket, the Stags would not lead again as Quinnipiac tied the game 17 seconds later. The difference of the game was a 20-0 Bobcats run in the second quarter where the Stags were held without a field goal for nine minutes.
Lou Lopez-Senechal hit a bucket one minute into the quarter, but that would be the final field goal until
Andrea Hernangomez bit the halftime buzzer on a 3-pointer.
Lopez-Senechal led the team with a game-high 25 points, the sixth time in her career she entered the 20 point mark. She tallied 18 of the team's 27 points in the first half.
The loss snapped a six-game winning streak for the Stags, their longest to begin a conference season since their at-large bid in 2000-01.
At the top of any Rider scouting report is Stella Johnson who has won seven MAAC Player of the Week awards and is one of the best scorers in the country as she leads the nation at 26.4 points per game. Johnson is an all-around threat as she also averages 7.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists per outing.
Besides Stella, the Broncs also feature Amari Johnson who leads the MAAC in double-doubles as she averages 11.6 points and 10.8 rebounds per game. Lea Favre also averages double figures and shoots 54 percent from the floor. Amanda Mobley is the distributor as she averages 5.6 assists per game.
Fairfield will return home for a quick home stand when they welcome Marist to Alumni Hall on Thursday night at 7pm.
