FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will look to keep their historic momentum going when they travel to reigning MAAC Champions Quinnipiac on Saturday at 4pm. The Stags will look to continue their best conference start since their at-large season in 2000-01 as they would improve to 7-0 in the MAAC with a win.
The Stags are coming off one of the best offensive games in history as they set the program single game mark by shooting 67 percent from 3-point range (12-for-18) in a dominant 40 point win over Manhattan. Fairfield had actually hit 12 of their first 15 shots from behind the arc before missing their final three attempts. The 87 points in the most for the Stags since a double overtime win in the WBI First Round win over Bryant in 2014. Fairfield had not reach that mark in regulation since Dec. 2, 2004 against Saint Peter's.
Overall, Fairfield shot 61 percent from the floor, the fifth best shooting percentage in program history. It is the most accurate night for the Stags since Jan. 7, 2006 against Rider.
Katie Armstrong was the leader for the Stags as she set a new career-high with 27 points on a personal best five made 3-pointers. Armstrong went 5-for-6 from behind the arc and hit five-straight after missing her first on the first possession of the game. Armstrong's 11-for-14 showing from the field ties the ninth best showing for the Stags (minimum 10 made). She is tied with Gail Strumpf (2001) and current Quinnipiac Head Coach Tricia Fabbri (1991 against South Florida).
Sam Kramer set a season-high with 20 points on 8-for-10 shooting. She also went 4-for-5 from deep.
The reigning MAAC Champions recently ended a three-game winning streak after a loss to Marist. As a team, the Bobcats average 66.5 points per game while shooting 38 percent from the floor. Quinnipiac in dangerous from behind the arc averaging 6.5 made 3-pointers per game. Four different Bobcats have made at least 15 long range shots, led by Taylor Herd's 25.
Shaq Edwards is the team's leading scorer at 15.2 points per game. Paige Warfel controls the board for the Bobcats with 10.4 rebounds. Cur'Tiera Haywood is the most accurate shooter from 3-point range at 44 percent.
Fairfield will next travel to Rider as they open up a three game road trip in Lawrenceville, N.J., on Tuesday at 7pm.
