FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University field hockey team's seven-game winning streak has pushed the team into the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) National Coaches Poll, occupying the number 23 position. Head Coach
Jackie Kane has led the program to a 7-1 record overall, heading into Friday's home match with Northeastern University.
The Stags, which also place 12th in the latest RPI ratings, earn their first national ranking since September 11, 2012 when they also stood 23rd in the nation after the team opened the year with a 4-2 record. The 2012 poll appearance was one year removed from the Stags appearing in a 2011 ranking under receiving votes.Â
"I am very proud of this team because this ranking is a direct result of the work put in since our first day of preseason," Head Coach
Jackie Kane said. "This is an achievement that every player can share. But we also know we are only eight games into the season with a lot of games left. We want to continue to build on this success as we move toward our goal of playing in the postseason."
Fairfield's seven consecutive victories ties the program's longest win streak which was established last season. The team dropped its 2019 season opener but has not lost a game since that setback. The Stags have won all four of their home games as well its road game at Boston College, and a pair of neutral site games against Kent State and Indiana since their season opener.
