Stags Host Sacred Heart in Annual "Herd for a Cure" Game on Wednesday

Fairfield wraps up the non-conference slate against their crosstown foe

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Twelve days after hosting the University of Denver, Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse welcomes another team of Pioneers on Wednesday afternoon. This week's opponent will make a much shorter trek to reach Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium as crosstown foe Sacred Heart gets set to occupy the opposite sideline for a 3 p.m. opening draw. The Stags enter their non-conference finale at 4-3 on the season, while the Pioneers are 1-5.
 
Herd for a Cure
As a part of a department-wide initiative, Fairfield Women's Lacrosse will host their annual "Herd for a Cure" game on Wednesday. Fans can purchase t-shirts ($10, cash only) and raffle tickets or make a donation to support the Norma Pfriem Breast Center. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to promote breast cancer awareness.

Free Admission
Admission is free for all fans for all Fairfield Women's Lacrosse regular season home games this season.
 
Parking & Tailgate Information
Parking for fans is available on a first come, first served basis. Fans may be directed by Public Safety personnel to designated parking areas. Fans are asked to observe all parking signs as they relate to handicapped, reserved or restricted parking.

Please note that the Walsh Athletic Center/Rafferty Stadium parking lot is closed to the general public during men's and women's lacrosse home games. Tailgating is limited to the Loyola gravel lot (Fairfield) and the Dolan East lot on Mooney Road (Sacred Heart). Tailgating activities are prohibited in all other academic and residential parking lots and in the Kelley Center parking garage. Fans are reminded that academic activities will be in progress at Fairfield University and Fairfield Prep.
 
Consistent with the Athletic Department Policy, alcohol is NOT permitted inside Rafferty Stadium. The athletic department strongly discourages the consumption of alcohol at tailgate events while in the presence of student athletes, both pregame and postgame and regardless of age. In accordance with Connecticut State Law, there shall be NO UNDERAGE DRINKING. Tailgate lots will be monitored by security and policies will be enforced.

Handicapped parking is available in all lots for those with proper permits on a first come, first served basis. Those in need of additional assistance are encouraged to contact Fairfield Athletics at 203-254-4000 ext. 2208 to ensure that proper accommodations are met.
 
The follow items are not permitted inside Rafferty Stadium:
• Alcohol of any kind
• Outside food and drink
• Glass bottles, cans, frozen drinks, coolers, thermoses or ice chests
• Seat cushions measuring larger than 18" and contain zippers, pockets or concealable areas
• Any animal with the exception of a service animal (must provide certification upon request)
• Weapons (including knives), any item that may be used as a projectile or one that is deemed dangerous by Stadium management
• Any other item deemed inappropriate by Stadium management
 
Fairfield's Last Time Out
The first-ever nationally-ranked women's lacrosse team to play on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium lived up to its billing on March 8 as #11/13 Denver handed the Stags a 20-4 loss. Fairfield's scoring came courtesy of Brooke Gallagher and Taylor Mitchell with two goals apiece. Diana DeVita added an assist.
 
Fairfield's defensive effort was led by Kennedy Slater and Maggie Reynolds, who each recorded three ground balls, one caused turnover and two draw controls. Olivia Conquest went the distance in the cage and made five saves.
 
Scouting Sacred Heart
The Sacred Heart Pioneers (1-5) are coming off of their first win of 2019 – an 11-8 home victory over UMass Lowell this past Saturday. The Pioneers are 0-3 against MAAC opponent with losses to Monmouth, Manhattan and Iona as well as a 16-5 loss to a New Hampshire team that the Stags defeated, 14-11, on March 3.
 
Hanna Wise has scored nearly half of the Sacred Heart goals with 15 of their 33 markers to date. Cassie Cesario adds eight goals and five assists for the Pioneers. Shana Hecht has started all six outings in the cage, recording a .485 save percentage and a 13.05 goals-against average with 67 goals allowed and 63 saves.
 
The Stags are 13-0 all-time against Sacred Heart, most recently running away with an 18-7 decision last season. The series dates back to a 13-8 Fairfield victory on April 8, 1998.

Up Next
Fairfield kicks off the conference portion of the 2019 season against another in-state foe as the Stags travel to Quinnipiac on Wednesday, March 27 for a 3 p.m. contest. The 3-5 Bobcats will visit Marist to begin their MAAC slate on Saturday prior to hosting the Stags.
 
The Stags also make the trip to Western New York to meet Niagara on Saturday, March 30 before returning to Rafferty Stadium to host Manhattan on Wednesday, April 3.
