Men's Basketball Finishes Road Trip At Siena On Monday

FAIRFIELD ,Conn. -- The Fairfield University men's basketball team finishes up its three-game conference road trip on Monday night when it travels to Albany for a 7 pm game with Siena College. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.

Fairfield picked up its fourth win away from campus with its 57-52 decision over Marist on Saturday night. The team has three true road wins this year plus a neutral site victory over Denver in Seattle. The Stags built a 10-point halftime lead but saw that lead disappear with four minutes to go in the game. The team rallied by scoring the last seven points of the game to regain the lead as well as earn the win. Landon Taliaferro hit his only three pointer of the game to tie the game while Neftali Alvarez's driving layup put Fairfield in front for good. Jesus Cruz netted three of four free throws over the final 40 seconds to seal the win.

Alvarez finished the game with a team-best 11 points while Taliaferro and Cruz both netted 10 points. Aidas Kavaliauskas came off the bench to score eight points in addition to dishing off three assists and picking up a pair of steals. Taj Benning picked up his first start since December 9 when he gained the nod at Marist . He played 20 minutes against the Red Foxes and netted eight points, all coming in the first half. Benning started the first 10 games of the season but came off the bench for his last nine appearances.

For the season, Taliaferro stands firm with a team-best 12.0 points per game with Alvarez placing a close second at 11.6 points every forty minutes. Jonathan Kasibabu (11.1 ppg) and Cruz (10.5 ppg) are also in double figures for the season. Kasibabu's six rebounds at Marist brought his conference-best rebounding average to 7.9 per game.

The Saints pushed their MAAC record over .500 with their 56-54 win over Iona, the team's third road victory in their last four tries. Siena's five road wins are second to Canisius (6 wins) in the MAAC. Siena has not reached 60 points in any of its last four games, but owns a 3-1 mark during that stretch of games. In their last outing, the Saints used 17 second-half points from Jalen Pickett, who has won the last five MAAC Rookie of the Week honors. During a key 15-0 run in the second half, Pickett posted 10 of those points which helped the Saints turn the game into their favor. Evan Fisher was the other Siena student-athlete in double figures, netting 12 points in 31 minutes of work.

Fisher ranks fifth in the MAAC for field goal percentage, netting 51.4 percent of his attempts. He, along with Pickett, are the team's double-digit scorers. Fisher (15.4 ppg) holds a slight edge over Pickett (15.1 ppg). Sloan Seymour represents the team's top three-point threat with 62, averaging 2.8 made per game. Kevin Degnan owns the best three-point percentage at 40.7 percent (44 of 108).
