Stags Pull Away in Fourth, For Frager’s 400th Career Win

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The last time the Fairfield University Women's Basketball team faced off against Saint Peter's, the Peacocks were able to mount a fourth quarter comeback. This time, it was the Stags who found the fourth quarter momentum, leading to a 69-61 victory in their final road contest of the season. The victory also marked the 400th in Head Coach Joe Frager's collegiate coaching career.

"I'm happy we were able to shift gears at halftime," Frager said. "We made a lot of poor decisions in the first half. I thought we ran our offense better even though we still made a few silly mistakes on the defensive side. Overall, I'm very happy with the second half and the win."

The Stags had to fight back after a six-point halftime deficit and was able to tie the game three times in the third quarter. Katie Armstrong was the first Stag to knot the score as she netted four-straight points to draw the game even at 38-38.

Casey Foley would give the Stags a temporary 41-40 lead as she swished through a 3-pointer right before the media timeout. That trifecta would be answered right back on a long-range by Briyanah Richardson. Foley would tie the game again with a 3-pointer making the score 46-46 and Lou Lopez-Senechal ended the quarter with a buzzer beating jumper to give the Stags a lead heading into the final quarter.

Hanging on to a one-point lead, the biggest play for the Stags came as Sam Kramer connected on her third 3-pointer of the game, giving Fairfield a two possession lead. Foley was the Stag to set-up that play, dishing out the 300th assist of her career, the 16th Stag to reach that mark. The Peacocks would not get back within one possession for the rest of the contest after four-straight from Armstrong brought the lead to eight.

Fairfield would notch 21 points in the final quarter and out-score Saint Peter's 39-25 in the second half.

The Stags grabbed 16 offensive rebounds in the win, including three-straight in the final two minutes to help maintain a five-point lead. Kramer would drive the baseline and convert the lay-up in the final minute for a seven-point advantage.

That lay-up would prove to be vital as Saint Peter's Zoe Pero had a chance at a 3-point play but missed the free throw, and Lopez-Senechal picked up the rebound. The Stags would hold a 44-29 advantage on the battle of the boards, their highest margin of the season.

All five starters reached double figures for the Stags for the second time this season. Khadidiatou Diouf and Lopez-Senechal both recorded double-doubles in the win. Diouf netted 12 points and a game-high 13 rebounds while Lopez-Senechal finished with 12 points, and career-highs with 10 rebounds and six assists.

Armstrong led the Stags with 19 points while Kramer and Foley both netted 13. Armstrong finished one rebound shy of her first career double-double.

The Stags will open up their final homestand of the season, welcoming Iona on Sunday at 1pm.
