FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- For the first time since 2005, Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse meets crosstown foe Sacred Heart University. Opening faceoff on Saturday at the Pioneers' Campus Field is slated for 1 p.m.
Last Time Out
Fairfield opened the 2019 regular season last Saturday afternoon on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium with a visit from Saint Joseph's.
Dylan Beckwith and
Taylor Strough both netted hat tricks, but the Stags were unable to keep up with the high-powered Hawks in a 21-10 defeat.
Beckwith totaled five points on the day, adding a pair of assists to his fourth-career hat trick. Strough's hat trick was his second as a Stag, and the sophomore also dished out an assist to set a new personal best with four points.
The Stags also got a multi-goal outing from
Patrick Drake, who scored a pair in his collegiate debut.
Brendan Quinn and
Jack Brennan rounded out the goal scoring with one apiece. Quinn added two assists to his marker for the fourth three-point day of his Fairfield career.
Brian Reda also handed out a pair of helpers in his first collegiate game, and
Tyler Wuchte added an assist in his first game as a Stag.
Max McGuire started in the cage for Fairfield and made one save. Rookie
James Corasaniti finished the effort and made six stops. The defense in front of the keeper was led by
Andrew Murrow with a pair of ground balls and a caused turnover, with
Jake Tymon also notching a caused turnover from the LSM spot.
Scouting Sacred Heart
Sacred Heart enters Saturday's contest at 1-2. The Pioneers most recently fell, 16-11, to Boston University after splitting contests with Georgetown (L, 13-10) and Furman (W, 18-11) to open the campaign.
Joe Saggese has led the scoring effort thus far with 10 goals and six assists for 16 points through three games. All-America attackman Max Tuttle is right behind him with 15 points on the year in the form of nine goals and six assists.
Brooks Dalton has played at 180 minutes in the cage, posting a 13.33 goals-against average and a .444 save percentage with 40 goals allowed and 32 saves.
A Familiar Face
Sacred Heart is led by Head Coach Jon Basti, a 1999 Fairfield graduate. Basti was a member of the Stags' 1996 and 1997 MAAC Championship teams and served as an assistant coach on the 2005 GWLL Championship squad.
All-Time Series vs. Sacred Heart (Sacred Heart leads 2-1)
The Stags are 1-2 all-time against Sacred Heart. Fairfield defeated the Pioneers, 14-10, in their inaugural varsity season of 1993. The following spring, Sacred Heart returned the favor with an 8-6 decision.
Most recently, the Pioneers took the rubber match on a neutral field at St. Andrews High School in Boca Raton, Fla. with a 13-9 victory on March 6, 2005.

The Stags return to Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium on Saturday, March 2, for a 1 p.m. visit from #18/19 Rutgers live on the Lax Sports Network. The Scarlet Knights (2-1) will challenge #1/1 Loyola this weekend before their trip to Fairfield. Rutgers has defeated Lafayette and St. John's with a loss to #19 Army West Point thus far in 2019.
