MAAC Rookie of the Week
A key component of the defense in Saturday's season-opening win for the Stags, Caroline Mangan has been selected as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Week. Mangan had five caused turnovers and four ground balls in her collegiate debut as Fairfield upended host Holy Cross, 13-9.

Last Time Out
Fairfield opened the 2019 season with a 13-9 win at Holy Cross on Saturday. The Stags' attack was paced by Taylor Mitchell, who set a pair of career highs with five goals and six total points. After netting 40 goals as a junior, Mitchell continued her torrid pace with an effort that included a "natural hat trick" with three straight goals in the first period during the run that staked Fairfield to the lead. Jillian Winwood added four goals for the Stags to tie her personal best, also tallying a "natural hat trick" with three in a row early in the second half. Meaghan Graham also racked up four points by distributing a career- high four assists.

Scouting UConn
Following up on an 8-9 campaign with a 4-5 Big East record, UConn has been picked third in the first-ever American Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Huskies had three players tabbed as Preseason All-AAC, including unanimous selection Sydney Watson. The sophomore attacker scored 25 goals and added 15 assists for 40 points in her freshman season to go along with a program single-season record 83 draw controls. Senior Caitlin Leary (37g, 5a) and junior Olivia Miles (24g, 5a) joined Watson on the Preseason All-AAC Team. The Huskies look for this trio to fill the void created by the graduation of Grace Nolan, who racked up 102 points for UConn in 2018 on her way to Third Team All-America honors. Junior Grace Beshlian is back in goal for the Huskies this season after starting 17 games for the club last year.

The Huskies began 2019 with an 18-6 loss at #15 Syracuse this past Friday. UConn got two goals apiece from Caitlin Leary and Abby Vetsch, while Beshlian made five saves as the starter in the cage.

All-Time Series
UConn has had the better of the all-time series with a 12-4 lead on the Stags. The series, however, has been defined by its close games as seven of the outings have been decided by two goals or fewer. Last spring was no exception as the Huskies survived a four-goal outing from Diana DeVita to hang on to a 13-12 win in Storrs.

Up Next
The Stags resume the non-conference slate next Wednesday, Feb. 20 for a 3 p.m. clash at Columbia. Action returns to Rafferty Stadium next Saturday, Feb. 23 when Hofstra comes to town for a 1 p.m. tilt. The Pride, who are 0-1 on the season following a 15-10 loss at #21 USC, will visit Bucknell and host Wagner before next weekend's game.
