FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will open up a mini two-game homestand when they welcome the Navy Mids to Alumni Hall for the first-ever meeting between the two schools. The Stags will be hosting a canned food drive in their first home game after Thanksgiving with all fans who bring non-perishable food items for donation, receiving a discounted ticket voucher for a future game. All items donated will benefit the Fairfield University Food Pantry.
The Stags are coming off a 74-41 loss at Rhode Island in their toughest offensive game of the season. Fairfield tallied season lows in points (41) and field goal percentage (.241) in the contest. The Rams jumped out to a 29-7 lead after the first quarter as URI shot 75 percent in the first 10 minutes.
Lou Lopez-Senechal was the lone Stag to reach double figures as she netted 12 points.
Katie Armstrong grabbed the team lead in rebounds with seven.
Sam Kramer hit one 3-pointer in the setback, the 112th of her Fairfield career which puts her one shy of tying Meka Werts for 12th on the program's career list. Kramer has connected on a long range shot in all five games this season and 12 in her last 14 outings.
Fairfield will be meeting for the first time in program history and the 183rd different school they have played in their history. Navy is an athletic team that relies on its defense to transition into their offense. The Mids are forcing 20.5 turnovers and have swiped 13.4 steals through their first eight games. The Mids recorded a season-high 31 turnovers in their win over Clemson in November. Conversely, the Stags' 70 total turnovers is the eighth lowest number in the country and their 14.0 turnovers per game ranks them 53rd.
Navy is also a deep team with nine different student-athletes tallying at least 17 points this season. Sophie Gatzounas leads the bunch with a 10.8 scoring average and a .587 field goal percentage. Jennifer Coleman is the only other student-athlete to average double figures as she tallies 10.3 per contest.
The Stags will play in their final game before final exams when they take on Hofstra on the George Bisacca Court at Alumni Hall on Saturday at 2pm.
