Baseball Announces 2020 Schedule

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – With the eyes of the baseball world looking towards MLB's October Fall Classic, the Fairfield University Baseball team is hard at work preparing for their 2020 season with the announcement of next year's 53-game campaign. The Stags, who are trying to build off one of the most successful seasons in school history in 2019, will begin their quest on Feb. 21 at UNC Greensboro.

"We feel this year's schedule will be the difficult challenge, but a challenge our players will be looking forward to," Head Coach Bill Currier said. "We will be competing against following the success we had last year in our school record breaking 35 win season. We feel our pitching staff will match up against anyone on our schedule as our goal is always to find early series and games to ready us for MAAC play."

The Stags won a program record 35 games in 2019 and advanced to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship Series for the second time under Currier.

The 2020 version of the Stags will play 22-straight games on the road to open up the campaign starting with their three-game set at UNC Greensboro (Feb. 21-23). The Stags will also travel for three-game series at South Florida (Mar. 13-15), and Seton Hall (Mar. 20-22).

Out of Fairfield's first nine opponents, three are coming off 30-win seasons and six maintained winning records in 2019. Ohio State leads the bunch with 36 wins from a season ago and they will take on the Stags in Deland, Fla., on March 8. This match will represent just the second meeting between the Stags and the Buckeyes in program history.

Fairfield will also face regional power Boston College who won 31 games in 2019 as they will face the Eagles twice in Greensboro, N.C., (Feb. 29; Mar. 1). This will be the first battle between the two Jesuit schools since 1982 while Fairfield holds a 10-6 record in the previous meetings.

The Stags will also take on North Carolina A&T (Feb. 29), Stetson (Mar. 7, 11), and Bethune-Cookman (Mar. 10) over their southern swing.

The Stags will have 18 home games on the ledger with their home opener against UConn on Mar. 31. Fairfield picked up their first win in 14 years against the Huskies in their last meeting, as they defeated UConn 10-3. The victory also represented the Stags' first-ever win over a nationally ranked team as UConn was ranked 22nd in the country entering the game.

Fairfield will also host four MAAC series with Manhattan (Apr. 4-5), Siena (Apr. 18-19), Saint Peter's (Apr. 25-26), and Iona (May 9-10) coming to town.

Fairfield will conclude their regular season campaign with a series at reigning champions Quinnipiac on May 14-15.

The Stags will try to clinch a spot in the MAAC Championships which will be held in Staten Island, N.Y., starting on May 20.
