Fairfield Finishes Fourth Nationally in Play4Kay Free Throw Challenge

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team finished fourth nationally by raising $2,663 in the Play4Kay Free Throw Challenge with all proceeds going towards the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Family, friends, staff, and others combined to donate $28.95 per free throw the team made during the month of February.

"We emphasize to our players the importance of contributing to the cure in any way that we can," Head Coach Joe Frager said. "All of us have had someone- a relative or a close friend who's been affected by cancer, including our Associate Head Coach Laura Scinto. It's tremendous that our fans, friends, family, and Stag community embraced this campaign along with us. We thank all those who joined in on the fight by making contributions on our behalf and giving our student-athletes a chance to be a part of something bigger than themselves."

The Stags donned their pink uniforms on February 17 during their Play4Kay contest against Siena, as the program raised additional funds for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. During a media timeout, students and fans took part in the Free Throw Challenge, and sunk 14 free throws during the intermission. Additionally, the Fairfield men's soccer program donated their entire 50/50 raffle proceeds to the cause.

Fairfield connected on 92 free throws during the month of February and exceeded their goal of $2,500 in collections. The National Free Throw Challenge raised over $40,000 among the 54 schools who participated.
