Softball Upended By North Dakota State In California Finale

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The Fairfield University softball team ended its California trip with a 4-0 loss to North Dakota State University, a game that was part of the Loyola Marymount Tournament. Weather permitting, Fairfield will play its first home game this Wednesday after playing a combined 21 games in North Carolina, South Carolina, Maryland, and California.

Today, North Dakota State used a lead-off single, an error, and a sacrifice fly to score the game's first run. That run would stand for most of the game until the Bison managed to push runs home in the fifth and sixth innings. The team added to its lead with a single run in the fifth inning as Bre Beattly, who drove home the game's first run with a fly ball, picked up her second RBI with a solo home run. In the sixth inning, the Bison used an error and a single to set up Lauren Reimers two-run double that pushed the team' advantage to 4-0.

Fairfield managed two hits in the game, both coming in the sixth inning. Mikayla Rubin picked up the team's first hit, reaching first with a single. She reached scoring position when she advanced a base following a passed ball. Lacey Olaff followed with a two-out single which Rubin tried to convert into the team's first run, but a strong throw caught the freshman at the plate.

After the team's first home game of the season on Wednesday, the Stags will play another four-game tournament next weekend as part of the Stony Brook Invitational which includes Fairleigh Dickinson and the host school.
