Stags to Start 2018 with Rafferty Red Out on Saturday

Fairfield hosts Holy Cross in the backend of a noon doubleheader

Preseason Guide

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse will begin the 2018 campaign this Saturday, Feb. 10, when Holy Cross comes to Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium for a 3 p.m. opening draw. The day begins with Fairfield Men's Lacrosse challenging Vermont at noon.

Red Out Rafferty: All fans are encouraged to wear red to support the Stags

Head Coach Laura Field, now in her third season at the helm and her 10th overall with the program, led the Stags to a 12-6 record and a trip to the MAAC Championship Game in 2017. After posting a 7-1 record in conference games last spring, Fairfield has been tabbed for second in the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Stags were represented on the Preseason All-MAAC team by senior attack Brenna Connolly and junior defender Erin Mammele.

Holy Cross will also open its season on Saturday, following up on a 7-10 campaign in 2017. Head Coach Amanda Belichick's team was slotted ninth out of 10 teams in the Patriot League Preseason Poll. The Crusaders have graduated their top three scorers from last season – a trio that accounted for 107 points – with Baker Earl as the club's top returning scorer after netting 15 goals with four assists in 2017.

Last spring, the Crusaders edged the Stags, 11-8, in Worcester on Feb. 11. The early season contest was knotted at 6-6 with less than 20 minutes to play before Holy Cross made a late push to earn the decision on its home field.
