FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse hits the road for the first time in 2018 this Wednesday, Feb. 14, for a 3 p.m. opening draw at UConn. The Stags are coming off of
a 14-5 win over Holy Cross to open the spring campaign this past Saturday at Rafferty Stadium.
Â
Fairfield (1-0) spread out the scoring in the win over the Crusaders with 10 different Stags recording at least one point.
Kathleen Hulseman led the effort with three goals and three assists en route to MAAC Offensive Player of the Week honors. Hulseman's first career conference award was a part of
a sweep by the Stags as
Paulina DiFatta picked up MAAC Defensive Player of the Week laurels for her efforts in goal (8 saves, .615 save pct.) and
Kelly Horning (1 goal, 4 ground balls, 2 draw controls) was tabbed as MAAC Rookie of the Week.
Â
The Stags head to Storrs seeking their first 2-0 start since the 2012 Fairfield team began the year with two straight wins on the way to a 13-4 finish. A win over the Huskies would snap a six-game skid against UConn, who leads the all-time series by an 11-4 count.
Â
Selected to finish fourth in the Big East Preseason Poll, UConn is off to an 0-1 start to 2018 after dropping a 23-11 decision at #7 Syracuse last Friday. First Team All-Big East attacker Grace Nolan led the Huskies with four goals and two assists against the Orange, while rookie Sydney Watson potted four goals with one helper in her collegiate debut. UConn went 8-8 last spring with half of their losses coming to eventual NCAA postseason teams.
Â
After this Wednesday's action, the Stags return home to Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium to host Columbia next Wednesday, Feb. 21. Opening draw is slated for 4 p.m. with all of the action to be broadcast by the Stags Sports Network on
Facebook Live.
