EDISON, N.J. – Following a
14-5 win over Holy Cross on Saturday to open the 2018 season, Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse has swept the first round of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference weekly awards.
Kathleen Hulseman was named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week,
Paulina DiFatta earned MAAC Defensive Player of the Week and
Kelly Horning was selected as MAAC Rookie of the Week. All three Stags earned weekly honors from the MAAC for the first time in their careers.
Hulseman led the Fairfield attack against Holy Cross with a career-high six points. The junior also set new personal standards with three goals and three assists to account for her half dozen points. Hulseman rounded out her day with four ground balls to help the Stags to victory.
DiFatta made the most of her collegiate debut in the cage, registering eight saves for a .615 save percentage. She stopped all five of the Crusaders' free-position shot attempts in the first half as the Stags built the 6-1 lead over the opening 30 minutes that would carry them to victory.
Horning contributed to all facets of the Fairfield victory. She tallied her first career goal and filled out her statline with four ground balls, two draw controls and a caused turnover in the midfield in her first game with the Stags.
Up next, Fairfield hits the road for the first time this season on Wednesday, Feb. 14 for a 3 p.m. outing at in-state foe UConn. The Stags return to Rafferty Stadium on the following Wednesday, Feb. 21, to host Columbia at 4 p.m.
