Fairfield Athletics Partners With Whole Foods to Provide “Fairfield Fuel” for Student-Athletes

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Fairfield University Athletics has partnered with Whole Foods to provide healthy snacks for the Stags' 450 student-athletes at the new Fairfield Fuel fueling station at Walsh Athletic Center. Fairfield Fuel is designed to provide "grab-and-go" snack options to fit both the busy schedules of varsity student-athletes as well as their nutritional needs for peak performance.

"Whole Foods graciously worked with us to determine the best product that would maximize our student athlete's optimal performance, post workout", says Tracy McEvoy, Director of University Sponsorships.

Fairfield Fuel is housed in the Walsh Athletic Center Weight Room where over 1,000 workouts occur among 450 student athletes every week.  Snacks, including options provided by Whole Foods, were chosen by a registered dietitian and Fairfield University Director of Sports Performance Nick Kolb.

"Proper nutrition is vital for both mental and physical performance," noted Kolb. "The products in our fueling station will help to ensure that our student-athletes are always operating at the highest level not only athletically, but also in the classroom."

In addition to Whole Foods products, Fairfield Fuel includes items such as fruit, cheese, yogurt, seeds, and nuts.

"We recognize that our responsibility to our student-athletes doesn't end at the final whistle or the last rep of a workout. Our new Fairfield Fuel fueling station – along with proper education and monitoring from our staff – is a vital component of our goal at Fairfield University to develop student-athletes to realize and exceed their potential," said Director of Athletics Paul Schlickmann. "We appreciate our partners at Whole Foods for working with our professional staff to equip Fairfield Fuel with healthy and nutritious refueling options for our student-athletes."
