FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will end a three-game road trip when they travel to Larenceville, N.J., for a meeting with the Rider Broncs on Saturday at 2pm. The Stags will be looking to snap a mini two-game losing streak after setbacks to Quinnipiac and Siena evened their conference record at 4-4.
During the last two contests, the Stags have had problems on the offensive front, especially when it comes to turnovers. Fairfield is averaging 19.5 miscues per game in their last two losses. Just a couple weeks ago, the Stags had ranked in the top-20 nationally in fewest turnovers per game.
Although the offense has been struggling,
Samantha Cooper continues to be a consistent presence in the post, as she recorded her league-leading ninth double-double of the season. Cooper has moved up to a tie with
Kelsey Carey '17 for 26th place on the program's all-time scoring list with 1,109 career points. Cooper can move into the top-25 in the road contest at Rider as she trails current Fairfield Assistant Coach
Stephanie Geehan by just three points and Robin Massari by five.
Cooper is also trying to catch Massari in rebounds, as Cooper has hauled in 894 boards in her career. With six more rebounds, Cooper will be only the sixth player in program history with 900 career rebounds.
The Stags will be completing the season series against Rider, who is coming off a victory against Iona on Thursday. The Broncs had to rely on their defense after trailing the Gaels 18-8 after the first quarter. Rider allowed just 13 Iona points during the second and third quarters for the victory. The Broncs' leading scorer Stella Johnson finished one rebound shy of a double-double.
Fairfield will have a little bit of a break before returning home to host the leaders of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) in the Quinnipiac Bobcats on Friday night at 7pm.
