Stags Travel to League-Leading Quinnipiac on Saturday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will begin their three-game road trip when they make the short trip I-95 to take on the leaders of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) the Quinnipiac Bobcats. Quinnipiac has won 18-straight games against conference opponents and have a national Sweet 16 appearance since their last loss to a MAAC team, coming to Fairfield last season. The action from the TD Bank Sports Center will be broadcasted live on ESPN3 on Saturday at 2pm.

The Stags will enter the game tied for second in the conference with a 4-2 record after their most dominating win of the season, a 21-point victory against Saint Peter's. It is the first game this season that the Stags led from buzzer-to-buzzer and also featured Fairfield's largest lead of the season at 30 points. Fairfield also had their best defensive outing of the season as they held the Peacocks to opponent lows in points (41), field goals (15), field goal percentage (.263), and assists (7).

For the first time in her career, Casey Foley led the Stags in points as she poured in a career-high 17 on 4-for-7 shooting from behind the arc. Foley, who now leads the Stags in 3-point percentage, has been on the best shooting streak of her career and is shooting 58 percent (7-for-12) from deep in her last two games. That shooting success has helped Foley tally 108 points this season, the exact same number she recorded all of last year. This season, Foley has reached the number in 320 fewer minutes while taking 32 fewer shots.

The Fairfield opponent, Quinnipiac, have continued their league domination by winning all eight contests in the league this year. Although Quinnipiac leads the MAAC in scoring offense, the squad does not have a player ranking in the top-10 in the league in scoring. As usual, the Bobcats run a deep rotation with five active players averaging five points or more and 10 players checking in for at least seven minutes per game. Jen Fay, an All-MAAC Third Team selection last season leads the squad with 11.9 points per game, the 15th best number in the MAAC. The Bobcats also lead the league in scoring defense (60.8), 3-point percentage (.322), assists (16.1), and steals (10.5).

Fairfield will continue their three-game road trip with a visit to Siena on Monday, January 22 at 7pm.
