BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- Although Fairfield University field hockey dominated the stat sheet, they finished the game on the short side of a 2-1 margin against LIU Brooklyn.
Hannah Pike scored the lone goal of the contest for the Stags.
Fairfield's defense was strong as LIU Brooklyn's two goals were the only shots of the game for the Blackbirds, while the Stags tallied 28 shots and 17 shots on goal. Unfortunately, they could not capitalize on these opportunities. Fairfield was also given 10 penalty corners while LIU Brooklyn was not awarded any.
All three goals came in the first half as the Blackbirds kicked off the scoring with a goal by Jenna Chrabolowski. She was assisted by both Skai Sprenkle and Marisa Batista. The Stags notched the equalizing goal at the 28-minute mark when
Erin Buckley's shot off the penalty corner, deflected off the goalkeeper and fell in front of
Hannah Pike who put in the rebound. Buckley was given the assist on the play. The go-ahead goal for LIU Brooklyn was scored by Madi Cook as she dribbled through the defense and took the shot from the top of the circle.
Blackbird's goalkeeper Molly Jannell tallied a total of 15 saves on the day to fend off the Stag's flurry of offense. This win marked the first ever for LIU Brooklyn's new field hockey program.
The Stags will be back on the road on Sunday when they take on Providence College at 1 p.m. They will then return home for their second MAAC contest of the season against Monmouth on October 6
