Stags Travel to Rider for Saturday Night Match

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team will travel to Lawrenceville, N.J., to take on the Rider Broncs on Saturday night with kickoff slated for 7pm. With a victory, the Stags will bring their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) record to 3-0 for the 12th time in their program history and the first time since 2014.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Stags used highlight reel goals from Sara Plowman and Liz Dumas and eight saves from Megan DeFeo to post a 2-0 victory against Iona. Plowman's score was the first shot for the Stags in the 14th minute when she took a header from Melanie Hingher near the top of the box and perfectly lofted her shot into the top corner. Dumas tacked on another goal early in the second half as she dribbled towards the upper corner of the box and quickly flicked a left-footed shot over the goalkeeper. With her eight saves, DeFeo posted her first clean sheet of the season and the fourth of her career. DeFeo moved to fifth in the MAAC in saves as she has now tallied 40.

SHOWING THE OFFENSE: With their two goals against Iona, the Stags have now recorded 11 this season, the same amount of scores they had all of last season. The new found offensive output has been a total team effort with six different players entering the scoring column, compared to having just five scorers in 2016. With their 11 goals, the Stags are tied for third in the MAAC in that category while placing second with 1.38 goals per game. Fairfield has also been more opportunistic with their chances by scoring 11 goals with their 89 shots this season compared to 237 shots last year.

THE BRONCS SCOUTING REPORT: Rider is coming off their first victory of the season after blanking Saint Peter's 3-0. Rider is home to one of the most talented scorers in the conference with two-time All-MAAC forward Ellie Smith. This season, she is tied with Kourtney Cunningham for the team lead with three goals. The Broncs have split time in net with Carmen Carbonell recording the shutout in their last match against Saint Peter's. In her eight games this year, she has posted a 1.12 GAA and .824 save percentage.

UP NEXT: The Stags will host a "Red Out" on Wednesday night with students receiving a special Fairfield Soccer scarf when Fairfield welcomes in-state rival Quinnipiac at 7pm.
