NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. – On the pitching arm of senior Kyle Dube, the Fairfield University baseball team earned a doubleheader split against Niagara as they took the finale 4-1 after losing the first game 11-7. Although they took one win today, the Stags saw their streak of six-straight series wins come to an end. On the positive side, Dube extended his scoreless streak to 13 innings after adding on six shutout frames tonight.

Facing a series sweep, Dube pitched one of his best games of the season as he shutdown Niagara (20-18, 10-8 MAAC) through six innings. All was not easy for the Fairfield (24-17, 11-4 MAAC) right hander who only allowed three hits during his outing. Dube was forced to get out of a couple of bases loaded threats in the third and fifth innings, but each time was able to get the third out, including a strikeout in the fifth.

The traffic forced the pitch count for Dube to rise as he was replaced by Peter Horn who went the next two innings, allowing a lone run on two strikeouts before Mike Bonaiuto recorded his third save of the season with a perfect ninth inning.

On the offensive side, Mac Crispino had the first RBI hit for the Stags with a single in the first, which pushed across Troy Scocca for the second run for the Stags. Fairfield got on the board originally after a Dan Hopkins fielder's choice.

Back in the leadoff spot, Drew Arciuolo, who had a big series with six hits and five RBI, pushed home two more runs in the fourth with a single to left. That gave the Stags a 4-0 lead, before eventually taking the nightcap 4-1.

This came on the heels of an 11-7 loss that saw Niagara belt three home runs in the span of six batters in the opener. Niagara scored their first seven runs with two outs, including a five-run rally in the second that began with two outs and nobody on. Tanner Kirwer's three-run shot was the highlight of the frame, but Peter Battaglia also went deep for a two-run shot in the frame.

The Stags tried to mount numerous comebacks, but Niagara was able to keep them out of striking distance. The Stags cut an 8-2 lead in half in the fourth with a Jack Gethings two-run single making the score 8-4. Niagara added three runs in the sixth before Fairfield got those runs back in the seventh with a three run homer by Kevin Radziewicz, his second of the spring.

The Stags will play one midweek game on the upcoming ledger, traveling to NJIT on Tuesday at 5pm.
