FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University women's lacrosse team hosts cross-town rival Sacred Heart On Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium.
On-Campus Parking Notice: Due to campus construction, the parking lot adjacent to the Kelley Center will be closed to the general public for the remainder of the season. Parking will be available in the lot between University Field and Loyola Hall and as directed by parking attendants on gameday. We request the cooperation of all fans in observing all posted signage when parking on campus.
Handicapped parking is available for those with proper permits on a first come, first served basis. Those in need of additional assistance are encouraged to contact Fairfield Athletics at 203-254-4000 ext. 2208 prior to gameday to ensure that proper accommodations are met.
Fairfield (2-4) vs. Sacred Heart (2-4): The Stags and Pioneers will meet on Wednesday for the 12th time in program history. Last season, the Stags topped Sacred Heart 14-10 on March 2 for their 11th straight victory over the Pioneers.
Scouting the Pioneers: Sacred Heart has lost three in a row heading into Wednesday's contest. Most recently, the Pioneers fell to UMass Lowell 10-8 on March 18. Senior midfielder Caitlin Delaney leads her squad with 21 points this season off a team-high 10 assists and 11 goals. Classmate Alyssa Pearce paces the offense with 15 goals and 19 total points on the season. Junior goalkeeper Paige Hammick has played every minute in cage for the Pioneers, posting 54 saves and a 12.95 goals against average.
Last Time Out: The Fairfield University women's lacrosse team lost a heartbreaker in overtime to Boston University 10-9 on March 15. Alex Fehmel led the Fairfield offense with three goals and two assists on the day. Riley Hellstein and Kathleen Hulseman each added two scores. While Scarlett Sulliman and Lily Crager both notched a single tally. Fehmel got in on the scoring action in the second half when she broke the tie and gave Fairfield a 6-5 lead. Eight minutes later she would tie the game at 7-7 and then with under 10 minutes to play she gave Fairfield their final lead of the game when she scored her third of the day to put the Stags up 9-8.The home side tied the game 9-9 with under seven minutes to play and in overtime scored the game winning goal at the 1:18 mark to stop Fairfield's two-game winning streak.
Career Milestones: Senior Riley Hellstein tallied her 100th career goal against Hofstra, making her just the 11th player in program history to hit that mark. The attacker has also racked up 149 draw controls in her career thus far ranking second all-time at Fairfield. The program record belongs to Melanie Raso '14, who hauled in 153 draw controls in her career.
Classmate Alex Fehmel has racked up 92 goals throughout her career, sitting just eight shy of that 100 goal mark.
National Notice: Fairfield as a team ranks among the best in the nation at converting their free position shots. For the season, they have scored 16 times on 31 chances (.516) which ranks 13th best in the country.
Looking Ahead: The Stags will open up MAAC play at Siena on Saturday, March 25.
