FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Senior
Angus Hastings earned a spot on the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America team for his performance in the classroom as well as on the pitch. The award is Hastings' second from the organization in the last few weeks, also garnering a berth to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region team.
Hastings ' academic honors go along with his Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) All-Academic laurels which he acquired for the third time in his four-year stay at Fairfield University. The defender has picked up many awards for play on the pitch this season as well as throughout his career. He capped his senior campaign by securing All-MAAC first team honors, the fourth time that the defender was honored by the conference during his four-year career. He also collected All-MAAC second team accolades as sophomore and junior after he received MAAC All-Rookie laurels as a freshman.
For the 2017 season, Hastings has enjoyed his best offensive season with four goals and one assist for nine points. The senior posted two game-winning goals during the campaign, including the deciding goal in the season-opening win over Oregon State. Hastings was one of the team's most productive scorers, putting the ball in the back of the net on four of his six shots during 2017. He was also on the field for all eight of the team's shutouts as the Stags allowed just 1.08 goals per game through their 20-game season.
The Fairfield University men's soccer team, under Head Coach
Carl Rees, captured the 2017 MAAC Regular-Season and Tournament Championships this year after posting a 12-5-3 overall record and a 7-1-2 MAAC slate. Rees, who was voted the MAAC Coach of the Year, helped the Stags advance to the 2017 NCAA tournament.
