Stags Host Niagara on Saturday at Noon

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University women's soccer team will play host to Niagara University on Saturday at noon. This will be the first match for the Stags since dropping a 2-0 decision at Canisius on Saturday. Fairfield was the lone Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) side to not play on Wednesday due to their bye-week.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Stags limited Canisius to just one shot in the first 50 minutes of play, but a penalty shot in the 51st minute was basically the difference as the Griffs defeated the Stags 2-0. Melanie Hingher had the best two chances for the Stags, highlighted by a diving header that caromed off Canisius' goalkeeper's fingers and off the side of the post to keep the Stags out of the scoring column.

THE NIAGARA SCOUTING REPORT: Niagara is also coming off a setback to Canisius, as they dropped a 1-0 decision in the "Battle of the Bridge." After holding the best non-conference record in the MAAC with a 4-2-1 mark, the Purple Eagles sit at 2-2-1 in the league with shutout victories against Saint Peter's and Manhattan. Seven different players have been in the scoring column for Niagara with Courtney Betts leading the squad with four goals and three assists. Kelsey Araujo and Hailey Bicknell are tied for second on the team with three goals and two assists. In goal, Shania van Nuland and Sabrina Locas have split time in net with both playing at least seven games and logging over 500 minutes. Van Nuland leads the pair with a 0.89 goals against average compared to Locas' 1.22 GAA.

EASTON AYSO Day: To celebrate the mentorship program between Fairfield Soccer and Easton AYSO, all Easton AYSO teams will receive a discounted group rate. Coaches and team organizers can contact Sarah Ratchford at sratchford@fairfield.edu for more information.

UP NEXT: The Stags will hit the road as they travel to Jersey City, N.J., to take on Saint Peter's on Wednesday at 3pm.
