FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University field hockey team will travel to Worcester, Massachusetts on Wednesday to face Holy Cross at 7:00 p.m.
Fairfield (1-6) vs. Holy Cross (3-3): The Stags are 15-15 all-time against the Crusaders. The Stags have won the past three matchups between the two sides, most recently winning in 2012, 4-0.
A Look at the Crusaders: Holy Cross is coming off an 8-1 loss to American at home on September 17. Junior forward Maureen Connolly leads the offense with 17 points this season off seven goals and three assists. Freshman goalkeeper Marica LaPlante has earned the last three starts for the team, posting a 2-1 record. The rookie has made 25 saves and posts a 4.40 goals against average.
Last Time Out: Last weekend, the team dropped a pair of one-goal games. On Friday, they hosted Penn in their home opener before falling 2-1 in double overtime. Hannah Pike scored the lone goal in the second half to force the game into extra time. Then on Sunday, Fairfield traveled to Columbia and endured a 3-2 loss. Julie de Paeuw and Ann Burgoyne notched goals while Pike was credited with the assist on de Paeuw's goal.
Milestone Watch: Senior forward Ann Burgoyne has now compiled the most goals in Fairfield history with 47 career scores. The forward is also third with 103 points, just nine shy of the record for a career. Julie de Paeuw can climb the rankings this season as well, she has compiled 20 goals and 49 points over her career, ranking 8th on each of Fairfield's all-time lists. Goalkeeper Caitlin Bennett can add to her impressive career during her final season as a Stag. Currently she ranks third in games played (58), third in wins (25), third in winning percentage (.471), and sixth in goals against average (2.52).
Looking Ahead: After their mid-week contest, the Stags will host Virginia on Sunday, September 25 for a noon time game.
