Box Score FAIRFIELD, Conn. – NJIT scored four runs in the third and the seventh inning en-route to a 8-4 victory over the Stags. Fairfield tried to mount another late inning rally and had the tying run at the plate in the ninth inning, but the game would end on a 4-6-3 double play.
NJIT (16-27) plated four runs in the third, highlighted by a three-run shot by their third baseman Tom Brady. Brady also made himself known in the inning prior when he tracked down a foul ball on a dive, giving the Stags their second out as they tried to get on the board.
Fairfield (22-21) would answer back with a RBI single from Troy Scocca, driving in Brendan Tracy who drove the first pitch of the inning off the end of the bat for a double. The Stags cut the deficit in half when leadoff man Tyler Gambardella singled in a run in the sixth inning, once again scoring Tracy.
The Highlanders put the game out of reach, momentarily, with four runs in the seventh, which started with a solo shot from catcher Edgar Badaraco. The Highlanders would record three RBI singles to cap their scoring, ending with a Brady RBI single. Brady would lead all players with four RBI.
The Stags got back within striking distance when they scored a pair of runs in the seventh, with RBI hits from Tracy and pinch hitter Mitch Williams.
In their final at-bats, Tom Ryan and Mac Crispino singled and the Stags had the benefit of two NJIT errors, which loaded the bases with one out. Justin Chin, however, was able to induce the game ending double play ball.
Nine different Stags tallied a hit in the game, led by three apiece from Crispino and Drew Arciuolo. Kevin Radziewicz went 2-for-4 at the plate, extending his career-long hitting streak to 13 games.
The Stags will next play this weekend when they host a first place showdown with Canisius. The three game series starts with a Saturday doubleheader at noon.
