FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fans will have two chances this week to catch the surging Stags as they will host crosstown rival Sacred Heart and America East power Stony Brook in the squad's two home games during the week. The Pioneers will bus the few miles to the Fairfield campus on Tuesday while the Seawolves will compete against the Stags on Wednesday. The game against Sacred Heart will start at 3pm and the contest against Stony Brook will begin at 3:30pm.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Stags swept their third-straight MAAC series and brought their conference-winning streak to 10 games. All three Fairfield starters recorded a victory in their outing, with John Signore having the best statistical performance with seven innings pitched and one run allowed. Kyle Dube led the Fairfield starters with eight strikeouts in his seven innings. Drew Arciuolo was the leader offensively, hitting .538 (7-for-13) in the series, including back-to-back three hit games, the first time in his career he has accomplished that feat.
FAIRFIELD VS SACRED HEART: The last three times these crosstown rivals have gone to battle, one run has been the difference, with the Pioneers coming out on top in two of those close games. The two teams last met last Wednesday as Sacred Heart held on for a 9-8 victory. Michael Conti had the biggest hit for the Stags with his bases clearing double in the eighth to put the Stags within a run. The Stags lead the all-time series 22-15.
THE PIONEERS SCOUTING REPORT: The reigning NEC champions are starting to get into another rhythm after putting together a seven game winning streak that was recently snapped against Fairleigh Dickinson. Dan Schock had a late home run during the series with the Knights, his fourth long ball of the season, placing him second on the team. Sacred Heart also had some late game magic, recording two last inning victories in that series. The most memorable came in the nightcap on Saturday when the road side scored five runs in the ninth to take an 8-7 victory.
FAIRFIELD VS STONY BROOK: The only win for the Stags in the all-time series came in 2007 when Fairfield took a 4-2 victory, behind a two-run triple from Dave Jermine in the sixth. After that game, the Seawolves have taken the last seven in the series to take a 11-1 lead in the series. Stony Brook crushed 15 runs in their meeting last year, winning by a 15-3 decision. Drew Blake, Troy Scocca, and Conti are the three returning players to record a hit during the loss.
THE SEAWOLVES SCOUTING REPORT: Five players have a batting average higher than .300 for the America East squad that is currently 17-18 overall and 7-3 in the conference. Any scouting report featuring the Seawolves will probably have senior Jack Parenty at the top. The reigning America East Player of the Year leads the team with 23 RBI and is second on the team with a .333 batting average. His power numbers are down from last year's breakout and historic season where he tallied 13 doubles and seven triples. This season he has recorded five doubles and legged out one three-bagger. He also has six stolen bases this season compared to 26 last year.
UP NEXT: The Stags will put the nation's third longest conference winning streak on the line when they travel to Manhattan for a three-game series against the Jaspers starting on Saturday at noon.
