Box Score JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The nation's third longest conference winning streak just got one game longer. The Fairfield University baseball team won their 10th-straight MAAC game with an 8-3 decision over Saint Peter's, to extend their program record for consecutive conference victories. With their victory, the Stags notched their 10th MAAC victory of the season, one more than they tallied all of last season.
Going for their third-straight MAAC series sweep, the Stags (19-18, 10-2 MAAC) wasted no time in getting on the board as Mac Crispino lined a 2-2 pitch into center field to drive in the game's first run. It was the fourth-straight game in which the junior has recorded a RBI, driving in eight runs during that span.
Fairfield scored six more runs before Saint Peter's (6-29, 1-11 MAAC) notched their first run.
Kevin Radziewicz extended his hitting streak to seven games with a RBI single in the fifth. That single would be the first of two RBI hits for the sophomore catcher tonight.
Troy Scocca notched his third hit of the series as he singled up the middle for a RBI single in the sixth.
The biggest hit of the game came off the bat of the Stags power hitter Jake Salpietro as he slugged his seventh home run of the season, a two run shot in the seventh. That long ball brought the senior into a tie for the MAAC home run crown, as he is now in a deadlock with Siena's Joe Drpich.
Kyle Dube was efficient in his seven innings of work, needing only 93 pitches to get through seven innings allowing two runs, both coming in his final inning. Dube struck out eight batters while walking one, and has now struck out 18 batters in his last two outing combined.
The trio of Radziewicz, Salpietro, and Crispino all tallied two hits apiece to pace the team while Brendan Tracy and Drew Arciuolo reached base three times, both with two walks and a hit. For Arciuolo, it concluded a breakout series, reaching base nine teams in the three games with seven hits.
The Stags keep their first place spot in the MAAC standings, percentage points ahead of Preseason favorites Canisius. It was their 10th-straight conference victory, which moves them to the third-longest streak in the country. Only Alabama State (17) and Arkansas Pine Bluff (11) have longer current streak.
Fairfield will host two weekday games in the upcoming week, beginning with a game with crosstown rival Sacred Heart on Tuesday at 3pm.
