No. 6 UNC Completes Sweep of Stags

Box Score

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Sixth-ranked North Carolina scored four runs in the first inning and kept on scoring. The Tar Heels tacked on seven runs in a five-inning span to take an eventual 11-0 victory and completed the sweep of the Stags.

Carolina (9-1) started the game with three-straight hits. Kyle Datres and Tyler Lynn each recorded RBI singles as the Tar Heels would score two more on another pair on sacrifice flies.

The Stags (3-3) notched a pair of hits in the second inning, courtesy of singles from Troy Scocca and Mac Crispino, but North Carolina pitcher Jason Morgan settled down and ended the mini threat with a fly out and a strikeout.

Fairfield would record only one more hit until the seventh inning, when they had their best chance to score. The Stags loaded the bases on singles by Troy Scocca and Tim Zeng but the North Carolina bullpen shut the door and no runs crossing the plate.

Scocca led the team with a pair of hits, his second multi-hit game of the season.

The Fairfield bullpen had another solid outing as Jake Binder, George Molner, and Bobby McNiff combined to allow just three runs in their four innings of work.

Fairfield continues their ACC trip with a visit to No. 8 NC State on Tuesday with first pitch coming at 3pm.
