Stags Head To Delaware For A Series With The Blue Hens

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – After 12 games in five different cities and two different states, the Fairfield University baseball team will be making their final road trip of their early 15-game road trip when they head up to Delaware for a three-game series against the Blue Hens. It will be the third all-time series between the two teams, with their last coming in 2014. The series starts when Aaron Howell opposes Ron Marinaccio on Friday at 3pm. Saturday's contest has been changed to a doubleheader starting at noon.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Stags led their last game at St. John's twice by scoring three runs in both the first and fifth innings. However, the reigning Big East Champions used a pair of four run innings to win their 14th-straight against the Stags 11-7. Mac Crispino and Jack Gethings led the Stags as each recorded a pair of the team's nine total hits. On the mound, Mike Bonaiuto and Brendan Harkin did not allow a run in their three combined innings of relief. Bonaiuto extended his season-long scoreless streak at nine innings. Brendan Tracy opened the game with a two-run double to put the Stags on the board and Tom Ryan doubled home two runs in the fifth.

FAIRIELD VS DELAWARE: The Stags and the Blue Hens will be playing in their third all-time series with their last meeting being a four-game series in 2014. Fairfield has won just one of their seven meetings against the CAA squad, with their lone victory coming in the series opener in 2012. There are four current Stags who recorded at least one hit in the 2014 series, with Michael Conti leading the Stags with two. Aaron Howell already has a start against the Blue Hens, as he went 6.1 innings allowing two runs, but none earned in his lone appearance against Delaware.

THE BLUE HENS SCOUTING REPORT: The CAA squad recently snapped a seven-game win streak that brought their overall record to 12-5 this season. The Blue Hens have built their team around pitching as they lead their conference in ERA, WHIP, and hits allowed. The pitching staff is led by Marinaccio, who is a tri-captain and the ace of the Blue Hens despite being just a sophomore. Marinaccio was named the MVP of the Delaware pitching staff in his rookie season after going 4-3 and being selected to the CAA All-Rookie team. This year, he leads the conference with a 1.08 ERA and is second with 27 strikeouts.

UP NEXT: The Stags will return home for the first of a program-record 23 home games when they welcome Hartford to Alumni Diamond on Tuesday at 3pm.
