Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Tori Reed, Kate Robinson, and Rachel Sieber each registered a hit in both games played by the Fairfield University softball team as the Stags dropped a decision to Georgetown University and Butler University at the Carolina Classic.

Fairfield jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first against the Hoyas, a rally that started when Lauren Filicia reached base on an error. She scored the game's first run when Reed lashed a double to right field that pushed the Stags into the lead.

Georgetown took the lead in its third at-bat, courtesy of a two-run home run from Kelly Amen. The long ball also brought home Alessandra Gargicevich-Almedia who reached base after getting hit by a pitch. After scoring a single run in the fourth inning, Georgetown broke open the game with four runs in the fifth inning. Gargicevich-Almedia presented the big hit with a home run to lead off the inning.

Sieber put the Stags' second run on the board when she launched a solo home run over the left field fence, making it a 7-2 game. The Hoyas finished the scoring with a single run in the seventh inning to cap its 8-2 win. Destinee Pallotto started the game in the pitching circle for Fairfield before yielding to the bullpen. Nicole Gardon and Lauren Falkanger finished out the final three innings.

In the second game, Fairfield jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Filicia and Angelina McGuire led off the game with back-to-back singles and ended up at second and third on a throw from the outfield following McGuire's hit. Robinson drove home both runners with a single to right field, making it 2-0.

Butler cut that lead in half with a run in the first and took the lead with seven runs in its second at-bat. The Bulldogs picked up more than half of their runs with Brandyce Sailee posted a grand slam.

Fairfield nearly erased the deficit by chipping away at the lead over the next few innings. The Stags recorded a pair of runs in the third inning, courtesy of a lead off walk to McGuire and a two-run homer from Reed. The comeback continued in the sixth inning with another three runs, accounted by a walk to McGuire and a two-run single from Reed.

The Stags were retired in order in the seventh inning to end the game. Two Fairfield freshmen pitchers made their debut in the game as Karisa Hughen received the start and gave way to Madison Roberts. Lauren Falkanger finished the game by pitching the final four-plus inning.

Fairfield ends its stay at the Carolina Classic by playing host University of North Carolina on Sunday afternoon.
