RIVERDALE, N.Y. – For the sixth-straight game the Stags allowed just one goal or fewer, but in what was the theme for the 2016 season, luck was not on the side of Fairfield as they dropped a 1-0 decision at Manhattan to end their campaign.
The lone goal came in the 25th minute when the Jaspers' Dylan Burns put back a blocked shot from Arianna Montefusco into the left side of the net for her second goal of the season.
After that score, goalkeeper Olivia Printy did everything she could to prevent Fairfield finding the equalizer as the Jasper keeper made eight saves in the contest. Four of those shots came off the foot of Brenna Brown who finished the contest with a game-high in shots (five) and shots on goal (four).
Faith Daley also found a shot on target in the 38th minute, but Printy was up for the challenge in recording her third and final save of the first half. The Stags also had other chances to knot the score, taking three corner kicks in the first 45 minutes, but none found the back of the net.
The Stags picked up the pressure in the second half, registering seven of the first nine shots throughout the first 25 minutes of the period. Once again, the ball did not bounce the way of the Stags as Elena Santos attempted the best shot in the 67th minute, but her chance went off the crossbar.
The reigning MAAC Defensive Player of the Week, Megan DeFeo made two stops in net and ends her season with a 0.72 goals against average, a number that is second in the MAAC over that span.
