Tracy, Scocca To Play In PGCBL All-Star Game Tonight

LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. – Two members of the Fairfield baseball team have been so impressive this summer, they will be taking part in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League's version of the 'midsummer classic.' Rising senior Brendan Tracy and rising junior Troy Scocca have been selected to participate in the All-Star game tonight representing the East division tonight at 6:45pm. Before the game, the annual Home Run Derby will take place, with Scocca as one of the nine participants.

“We are very happy for Brendan and Troy to represent our program in the PGCBL All-Star Game,” Head Coach Bill Currier said. “They both have been working very hard to get better this summer and their result show that hard work. It will be a great experience for them to play against some of the best young players in the country.”

Tracy is having arguably the best season for the best team in the league, the Amsterdam Mohawks. The rising senior is ranked sixth in the league in batting average (.349), tied for third in hits (44) and RBI (33), and has continued his power surge with six home runs, which is tied for the top spot in the league. As a team, the Mohawks have been ranked as the eighth best team in the country and are already three wins shy of tying a program record for victories in a single season. Amsterdam ranks first in the East division by 10 games, at 33-8.

“I'm really excited to be playing in the All-Star game,” Tracy said. “It's another stepping stone in my career and to be able to make the team alongside some of the best talent in the country is quite motivating.”

Scocca, who was named the league's Player of the Week last month, is currently seventh in the league with a .341 batting average. The rising junior ranks fourth in hits with 44, accounting or six doubles and six triples. He also is tied for third with 30 RBI. All these numbers show the improvement that he is developing from a breakout sophomore season as he recorded 79 more at-bats than his rookie year. Scocca will also take place in the Home Run Derby event, which will take place before the All-Star contest.

“This is just going to give me more confidence and allow me to play at the highest level possible,” Scocca said. “I'm excited to get back and see all the guys and get on track to win a MAAC Championship.”
