Stags Head To Pitt For Non-Conference Action

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Stags will try and do something they have not done since 1993; defeat a current member of the ACC. The Stags will have that chance when they travel to Pitt for a three-game series against the Panthers starting with a double header on Saturday at 12pm. There will be a single game on Sunday also starting at noon.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Fairfield is coming off a 10-9 setback against their crosstown rivals Sacred Heart. Fairfield tied the game two separate times and slugged a season-high three home runs against the Pioneers. Dan Hopkins, Dean Sadik, and Jake Salpietro all clubbed the long ball. Mac Crispino had a career-day with four hits on the rainy afternoon, his fifth multi-hit game in his last eight contests.

STAGS DIG THE LONG BALL: Three different Stags clubbed home runs in the loss against Sacred Heart, the first time the Stags have accomplished that feat since May 9, 2010 against Iona. Hopkins and Salpietro both hit their third home run of the season to pull into a tie for the team's lead. Sadik hit his first home run since his freshman season in the game.

TRAVELIN' MAC: Mac Crispino is in the midst of the best stretch of his career. The sophomore has tallied nine multi-hit games this season, with five coming in the last eight games. Crispino is hitting .481 during his last eight games.

CHASING HISTORY: Sebastian Salvo has continued his impressive fielding campaign, not committing an error in his last 290 chances. He is 17 chances shy of tying the all-time record for Fairfield set in 1987.

FAIRFIELD VS PITTSBURGH: The two teams will be meeting for the second time in program history, with the Panthers taking the previous meeting in 2002. That game was the last time that the Stags have played against a current team of the ACC.

SCOUTING THE PANTHERS: Pittsburgh comes into the series with a 14-24 record and have lost five of their last six games.  The biggest series for Pitt this season came in the middle of March when the squad took two out of three against North Carolina, who was ranked 11th in the country at the time. Since then, Pitt has struggled offensively with Jacob Wright being the best offensive option with a .282 batting average. He also leads the team with a .408 on base percentage. When he gets on he is the biggest threat on the base paths with 13 stolen bases, which leads the team. T.J. Zeuch will start game one of the series, currently leading the starters with a 4.13 ERA. Zeuch is coming off a 10-strikeout performance against Wake Forest in only 5.1 innings.

UP NEXT: The Stags will return home to host Sacred Heart on Tuesday at 3:30pm.
