Women's Lacrosse Hosts Monmouth Wednesday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University women's lacrosse team will continue Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play at home on Wednesday, April 15 against Monmouth. The Stags will host the Hawks at 3:00 p.m. at Rafferty Stadium for their last home regular-season contest of the year.  

Fairfield (9-4; 4-1 MAAC) vs. Monmouth: The Stags are 7-5 all-time against the Hawks in a series dating back to 1997. Fairfield is currently on a seven-game win streak against Monmouth. Last season, the Stags defeated the Hawks, 5-4, on April 23 in West Long Branch, N.J. In that contest, Riley Hellstein netted two goals for Fairfield.

Scouting the Hawks: Monmouth is currently 10-3 on the season, and is coming off an 11-10 win over Marist last Saturday. The Hawks have posted victories over Lafayette, Drexel, Rutgers, Fresno State, Oregon, Niagara, Quinnipiac, Siena, Manhattan, and Marist and have fallen to Towson, Delaware, and Saint Joseph's. This year, Marial Pierce is Monmouth's leading scorer, tallying 23 goals and 14 assists. Goalkeepers Katie Donohoe and Caroline Huelster will be charged with keeping the ball out the net for the Hawks. Donohoe has tallied 70 saves with a save percentage of .438 while Huelster recorded 14 saves with a save percentage of .500.

Last Time Out: The Fairfield women's lacrosse was last in action on Saturday, April 11 when the Stags fell 11-10 to conference foe Canisius at Rafferty Stadium. In that contest, junior  Colleen Reynolds recorded a hat trick for the Stags while Courtney Chmil and Alex Fehmel recorded two goals apiece. Fairfield also received goals from Jamie LeoneJulieanne Mascera, and Maeve Quinn.

National Notice: Entering the week, the Stags are among the national statistical leaders in several categories. Junior goalie Chelsey Sidaras is ranked third in save percentage (.538) and seventh in goals against average (6.66). Senior Meghan Reda is ranked 20th in ground balls per game (2.69). As a team, Fairfield is ranked second in saves percentage (.538), eighth in scoring defense (6.92), and tied for 23rd in win percentage (.692).

Looking Ahead: After Wednesday's contest, the Stags will take conference action on the road. Fairfield will head to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. to take on Marist on Saturday, April 18 before closing out their regular-season at Quinnipiac on Wednesday, April 22.
