Box Score

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Stags earned their biggest lead of the season against the sixth-ranked team in the country and continued to swing the bats in an offensive slugfest but No. 6 UCF rallied to sweep the Stags 16-10 on Sunday. Fairfield set season-highs in runs, hits, total bases, doubles, and runners on base against a top-10 team.

Fairfield (0-8) jumped out to their largest lead of the season in a five-run second inning that was capped by a Sebastian Salvo double that cleared the bases to give the Stags a 5-0 lead. Michael Conti opened the scoring with a single and Sal Ciccone brought in a runner after he was hit by a pitch. The Stags clubbed two hits in the inning and would finish the game with 13 hits (the most UCF has given up to a team this season).

The Knights (17-4) would respond with a seven run bottom half of the inning. Matt Diorio clubbed a three run shot to cap off the seven run, nine hit frame. It was one of two home runs in the game for the Knights, who hit nine in the series, and came in the series ranked in the top-five in the country in homers and runs.

The biggest blow of the game came when James Vaszquez slugged a grand slam in the third inning which gave the home team a 12-5 lead.

But the story for the Stags was their hitting. Fairfield would out-score UCF 5-4 in the final six innings, beginning with another Salvo double down the right field line which brought home a run. The four RBIs was a career-high for Salvo.

Alex Witkus drove in two runs with a single in the sixth inning and Brendan Tracy brought home Mac Crispino.

Tracy would also bring home a run with walk. The Stags had 18 base runners in the game.

Fairfield jumped over the starter for UCF in redshirt senior Spencer Davis who came in the game with two saves and was second on the team with seven appearances. The Stags limited Davis to 1.2 innings and scored five runs.

Michael Conti set a career-high with three hits and three runs scored. Salvo also went 3-for-5 with a personal best 4 RBIs. Crispino had a career-best with three walks while scoring two runs.

The 10 runs allowed tied for the most No. 6 UCF has allowed this season (Florida).

Ryan O'Connor, David Sacco, and Kyle Dube combined to shut down the bats of UCF in the final three innings allowing just one hit in the final frames.

Fairfield will try to open up their home portion of their campaign as they are scheduled to host St. Johns on Tuesday at 3pm.
