Women's Lacrosse Edges Lehigh 5-4

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Fairfield University women's lacrosse edged Lehigh, 5-4, in their first road contest of the year at the Ulrich Sports Complex. Junior Colleen Reynolds scored two goals for the Stags who also received goals from Courtney Chmil, Jamie Leone, and Alex Fehmel.

Lehigh got on the board first, with Allison LaBeau scoring the first goal off a free position shot at 22:28. At 16:42, Fehmel tied the game at 1-1 when she netted a goal off a feed from Scarlett Sulliman to put Fairfield on the board. The Mountain Hawks answered with back-to-back goals from LaBeau at 13:08 and 10:47 respectively. Lehigh scored once more, at 9:19, before Chmil netted a free position goal, to narrow the gap, with just 1:57 left in the first half. The Mountain Hawks took a 4-2 advantage into halftime.

The Stags came out firing in the second half, scoring the only three goals to comeback from the halftime deficit. At 22:57, Leone netted her first goal of the game, off a free position shot. A second free position shot by Reynolds, at 18:21, tied the game at 4-4. Play continued until Reynolds scored the game-winning goal, off a pass from Chmil, at 11:10. Both teams continued to battle but neither team was able to score again, yielding a final 5-4 victory for the Stags.

Fairfield was slightly outshot, 15-13, but had a 7-4 advantage in draw controls. Lehigh had a 20-14 advantage in ground balls. Junior Chelsey Sidaras manned the net for the Stags and recorded six saves.

Fairfield women's lacrosse (3-1) will bring action back home to Rafferty Stadium. The Stags will host New Hampshire on Friday, March 6 at 3:00 p.m. before traveling to New Britain, Conn. to take on Central Connecticut State on Friday, March 13 at 5:00 p.m.
