Fairfield Reopens MAAC Play Against Niagara

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – After a non-conference schedule that saw Fairfield play five teams that made a national postseason tournament last season, the Stags will turn their attention back to the most important part of their campaign: the MAAC portion. Fairfield will play their first game of the 2015 calendar year when they host the Niagara Purple Eagles on Sunday at 2pm. The Stags have won 14 of the last 16 meetings against the Western New York squad.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Fairfield is coming off their fourth straight loss, dropping a 73-59 decision to Iowa State. Casey Smith had the game of her life in the loss. Smith had a career-high 24 points which is the most by a Stag this season. Smith also set season-highs for Fairfield with 12 field goals made. The difference of the game came in the second half. La Salle scored 50 points in the final stanza, the most the Stags have allowed in any half this season. Samantha Cooper contributed to the team in another way besides the scoring column. Cooper had a career-high six assists and grabbed nine rebounds and two blocks in the loss.

The 114 points scored in her first 10 games was the most by a Stag rookie in over 15 years.

HELPING IN OTHER WAYS: Despite scoring just one point in the last two games combined, Samantha Cooper is helping the team out in other ways. Cooper has a total of 15 rebounds, seven assists, and three blocks in the last two games.
In three of the five games when Cooper has reached double figures in scoring she has failed to reach the five rebound plateau.

Fairfield's past opponents have a record of 81-39, with a .675 winning percentage. Hampton has the toughest schedule in the country thus far.
