Getting to Know the CAA: Drexel

Fairfield's first-ever Colonial Athletic Association game will bring the Stags to Philadelphia on Saturday, March 28. The Stags open the CAA slate with the defending CAA champion and a 2014 NCAA Quarterfinalist, Drexel University.

Selected to finish second in the CAA Preseason Poll, the Dragons will be looking to maintain the momentum from their best season in program history last spring. The 2014 Drexel squad went 13-5 overall while posting a 4-1 CAA tally. The Dragons posted a nine-game winning streak, which included the club's run to the CAA crown an NCAA First Round victory at No. 9 Penn, before falling to No. 2 Denver in the NCAA Quarterfinals.

The Dragons, who are ranked No. 16 in the USILA Preseason Poll, boast a pair of Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-America honorees in face-off man Nick Saputo and midfielder Ryan Belka, both of whom were also tabbed as All-American at the end of 2014. Saputo and Belka were joined by attackman Cole Shafer on the 2015 Preseason All-CAA team; the trio represents three of the five starters returning to Drexel from the 2014 club.

Fairfield challenged Drexel in its first three seasons as an NCAA varsity program from 1993-95 with the Dragons claiming all three meetings.

One week after the meeting Drexel, the Stags will remain on the road and continue CAA action on Saturday, April 4 with a trip to the University of Massachusetts. FairfieldStags.com will preview the 2015 Minutemen on Tuesday.

Prior to beginning the CAA schedule, the Stags' 2015 season begins with Opening Day at Rafferty Stadium as Holy Cross visits the new venue for a noon contest. The clash with the Crusaders and all Fairfield men's lacrosse home games are slated to broadcast live on FairfieldStags.TV.
