Stags Fall to Stony Brook at Rafferty Stadium

Moore tallies four assists, Gilbert scores twice in CAA setback

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A 6-1 second quarter in favor of visiting Stony Brook proved decisive as Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse was on the short end of a 16-10 final on Saturday afternoon on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium. Jake Gilbert scored two goals with an assist, and Rob Moore dished out four helpers for the Stags.

"We need to clean up some details in our execution, if we want to be at a higher level of play on a consistent basis," said Head Coach Andrew Baxter. "We've seen what we can do when we execute to our potential, and we've also seen what happens when we have lapses and give extra opportunities to our opponents. The only way to fix it is to have a great practice on Monday, another one on Tuesday, and go from there."

Moore was Fairfield's top scorer with four assists from the midfield. Gilbert was the lone Stag with a multi-goal afternoon, including one of the Stags' two man-up tallies. Andrew Kasten had a goal and an assist from the defensive midfield, and Fairfield got single goals from Will Consoli, Devin Lampron, KJ Delane (man-up), Justin Brown, Jason LaMay Jr., Shane Elliott, and Jeremiah Wade.

John Okupski capped the individual scoring with an assist.

The Stags stayed on the attack with a 17-12 advantage at the faceoff spot. Jonathan Lewis went 15-for-25 with nine ground balls, and Mark Durling added two wins on his four attempts on the draw.

Defensively, Julian Radossich racked up five caused turnovers and picked up two ground balls. Livingston also picked up a pair of grounders from the back line.

Landon Whitney and Owen Hirsch split goalkeeping duties and finished with eight and seven saves, respectively.

Kian McCoy led Stony Brook with three goals and five assists with Justin Bonacci netting a hat trick and three helpers. Tommy Wilk made 14 saves to earn the win in the cage and also served up an assist on a transition marker for the Seawolves.

Up next, the Stags head to Long Island to challenge Hofstra on Saturday, April 4 at 3:30 p.m.
