Women's Lacrosse Heads to Manhattan Saturday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University women's lacrosse team will take Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play on the road as the Stags travel to Riverdale, N.Y. to face Manhattan on April 5 at 7pm.

Fairfield (7-3) vs. Manhattan (2-8): The Stags are 14-5 all-time against the Jaspers since 1998. Fairfield is currently on a seven game win streak against Manhattan, including last year's game on April 17. In that contest, Courtney Chmil scored four goals to lead Fairfield to a 16-4 win over Manhattan at Gaelic Park. Jenna Fuchs and Jenna Slowey netted three apiece while the Stags also received goals Julieanne Mascera and Samantha Mazzeo. Fairfield took the lead at 22:39 in the first half, off a goal from Slowey, and never looked back. Goalie Chelsey Sidaras manned the net in the second half for the Stags and tallied six saves.

Scouting the Jaspers: Manhattan has lost its last four games and is coming off a 12-7 loss to conference foe Siena on April 2. The Jaspers return standouts Carly Eskenazi and Stefanie Ranagan. Last season, Eskenazi scored 22 goals with three assists for a total of 25 points while Ranagan tallied 18 goals with three assists to total 21 points. Sophomore Megan Yarusso is Manhattan's leading scorer this season with 16 goals. Domenica O'Brey follows, tallying 13 goals while Donna Jo DiNorcia and Kelsey Rehain are tied for third with 10 apiece. Junior goalkeeper Christin Fiorinelli has tallied 150 saves this season, earning a save percentage of .413.

Last Time Out: Fairfield was last in action on April 2 when the Stags downed MAAC opponent Iona, 16-4, on Mazzella Field in New Rochelle, N.Y. Melanie Raso and Slowey scored four goals apiece for Fairfield while rookie Riley Hellstein netted three. Alex Fehmel scored twice and the Stags also received goals from Mascera, Kaitlyn Arnold, and Colleen Reynolds.

She's in Control: Senior Melanie Raso tallied two draw controls against Iona, setting the new career standard at Fairfield. Raso surpassed the program record of 141 set by Chloe Mangan, in last season's contest against Iona, and brought her career total to 143. Raso is also in the Stags' career top-10 in points (152) and goals (119). She also has eight game-winning goals during her career, two away from tying the program record.

Looking Ahead: The Stags will continue conference play at home. Fairfield will host Siena on April 12 before hosting Quinnipiac on April 16.
