WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Fairfield University baseball team fell to the University of Hartford, 8-5, this afternoon in non-league action. Jack Giannini went 1-for-4 with three RBIs, a double, and a run scored.

Fairfield (6-11) got on the board in the top of the first inning as Jake Salpietro led off with a single and later scored on a single by Billy Zolga. Hartford pulled ahead in the bottom of the inning on a two-RBI single by Dalton Ruch. Fairfield tied it up in the top of the fourth as Giannini drew a leadoff walk and later scored on a RBI single by Brendan Tracy.

Hartford (11-8) ended the stalemate in the bottom of the fifth inning, pushing six runs across the plate for the 8-2 advantage.

The Stags got their bats going in the top of the ninth inning. Dean Sadik drew a leadoff while rookie Dan Hopkins reached on an error. With one out, rookie Michael Conti walked to load the bases. Giannini promptly doubled down the left field line to clear the bases. Giannini later advanced to third on a wild pitch, but Hartford was able to get out of the inning.

It was a staff day for the Stags as they used seven different pitchers.

Fairfield returns to action this weekend with a three-game series at Saint Peter's University.
