Stags Look For First Win of Season, Traveling to Hofstra

FAIRFIELD, Conn.  The Stags will try to do something they haven't done since their first year in Division I when they travel to Hempstead, N.Y. to take on the Hofstra Pride.  Fairfield has not defeated Hofstra since 1982, but have only played the Pride three times in the nearly 30 years since.

HOW TO WATCH: John Cummings has the call on WVOF.org and the WVOF iPhone app.  Free video and live stats will also be available.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Stags lost both of their games in the URI Tipoff Tournament dropping a 83-68 decision to East Carolina and also suffering a 68-55 setback against Marshall.  Kristin Schatzlein was a bright spot for the Stags, averaging 17.5 points per game and being named to the All-Tournament team.  Schatzlein recorded a career-high 21 points against Marshall.

NOTHING'S FREE....YES IT IS!: The Stags went 14-14 from the free throw line against East Carolina, it was the best showing from the charity stripe in program history.
Fairfield has not missed a free throw in a game where they shot 10 or more on now six different occasions.  Fairfield has gone perfect from the line on Feb. 23, 2003 against Canisius (13-13); Dec. 8, 2003 against Seton Hall (12-12); Jan 14, 1989 vs Fordham (12-12); Feb. 27, 1988 at Manhattan (12-12); and Dec. 30, 2006 at Long Beach State (10-10).

KEEP THE BALL: Fairfield turned the ball over 32 times in the season opener against East Carolina, the most in a game in more than five years.  The Stags had not had more than 28 turnovers in a game since 2009.  Fairfield cut down on their turnovers in the next game, only having 11 against Marshall.

SHOTS ON A LINE: Kristin Schatzlein shot a career-high 16 three-point field goal attempts in the game against Marshall. Schatzlein had only attempted 10 or more in a game twice in her career prior to the game.
The five 3-pointers that she hit were a career-high and helped her post a personal-best 21 points in the game.
The 16 3-pointers attempted was the second most in program history just one shy of Jessica Grossarth's record against Canisius on Feb 17, 1997.

FAIRFIELD VS HOFSTRA: The Stags and the Pride will be meeting for the 10th time in program history and the first time since 2010.  Fairfield has not beaten Hofstra since 1982 when they won 66-62. At the time it was only the ninth win in their Division I history. Fairfield is 3-6 all-time against Hofstra.  The two teams last met in 2010. Four Stags scored in double figures in that game with Joelle Nawrocki leading the team with 13 points, while hitting all three of her 3-point attempts.

SCOUTING THE PRIDE: Hofstra is similar to the Stags with seven first year players on their roster. The Pride have no seniors on their roster, with four freshmen and five juniors.
The Pride are coming off an overtime loss to Central Connecticut, the first season opening overtime game since 2000. Hofstra was picked to finish fourth in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Preseason Poll after finishing 8-8 in the conference last season. The team is led by sophomore Elo Edeferioka who is coming off a career-high 22 point performance against CCSU. Edeferioka was named to the All-CAA Freshmen team last season. She also had 13 rebounds in the overtime loss.

UP NEXT: Fairfield will play their first home game of the season when they welcome Butler on Saturday, November 22 at 7pm.  Fans attending the home opener will get a free T-Shirt while supplies last.
