Stony Brook (18-28) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by Tanner Nivins. Fairfield answered in the top of the fifth inning. With runners at second and third with one out,
Sal Ciccone laid down a bunt to squeeze home
Mike Bennett but in the attempt to get Ciccone at first, the Seawolves threw the ball away, allowing
Dean Sadik to score. The Seawolves tied it up in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI groundout by Cole Peragine.
Stony Brook broke the stalemate with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning as Peragine delivered a two-run homerun to put the Seawolves ahead, 4-2. Stony Brook retired the Stags in order in the top of the ninth for the win.
In his longest outing of the season, sophomore
Tucker Panciera (2-3)
went 8.0 innings, scattering four runs on six hits with three strikeouts in the loss.
Fairfield (12-27) returns to action this weekend when the Stags host their final home series of the year against Iona College. The two teams will play a doubleheader on May 4 at 12pm followed by a single game on May 5 at 12pm. Prior to the first pitch on Sunday, the Stags will honor their seniors in a ceremony.
