FAIRFIELD, Conn. –
The Fairfield University baseball team fell to Northeastern University, 10-6, this afternoon in non-league action at Alumni Diamond. Junior Ryan Plourde went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
 
Junior Rob LoPinto drove in two runs while extending his hitting streak to nine games.
 
Fairfield (10-22) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI groundout by Anthony HajjarNortheastern tied it up in the top of the third but the Stags got the run back in the bottom half of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Plourde. The Stags added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning for the 4-1 advantage.
 
The Huskies (22-15) broke the game open in the top of the sixth inning scoring eight runs to overtake the Stags, 9-4. Fairfield got two of the runs back in the bottom of the sixth on a bases loaded walk and a sacrifice fly by LoPinto which pulled the Stags within 9-6. Northeastern scored a final time in the top of the eighth.
 
Isaac Lippert (4-1) picked up the win, after throwing 1.1 innings of relief. Freshman Aaron Howell (1-2) took the loss, allowing five runs, three earned, in 5.1 innings of work.
 
Fairfield returns to action on April 23 when it hosts Sacred Heart at 3:30pm at Alumni Diamond.
