SHELTON, Conn. -- The Fairfield University men's rowing team took to the local waters by participating in the Sacred Heart Invitational in nearby Shelton. The novice 4 highlighted the two-day event by taking second place in each of its races as the team sent four entries to the Invitational.
The novice 4 secured second on Saturday but just missed a first-place finish as SUNY-Maritime crossed the line in 8:53.1. The Stags, which finished with a time of 9:06.6, included
Chris Calitri, Kier Kaiser, Charlie Serpa, Bobby Lawler, and coxswain
Olivia Vita. The race also included Fordham (9:15.0), Army (9:24.4), and Iona (9:32.9).
The crew came back 24 hours later and secured a second-place finish behind SUNY-Maritime, which won the race in 7:16.7. Fairfield was less than five second back with a time of 7:21.4 behind the efforts of Calitri, Kaiser, Serpa, Lawler, and Vita. The rest of the field included Iona (7:43.3) and Marist (7:54.4).
The varsity 4 also took a runner-up finish on Saturday, coming within a mere two seconds of winner Fordham University. The Rams posted a time of 8:29.0 while the Stags came up short with a time of 8:31.0. The shell included

Matt McNeill, Flori-Jan Floris, and coxswain
Trent Domingos. On Sunday, Fairfield put two entries in the varsity 4 with the A boat finishing the race in 7:20.3 and the B boat posting a time of 7:50.8. Marist won the race in 6:53.4, followed by Iona and SUNY-Maritime.
Sunday's A boat consisted of Siddal, Auger, McNeill, Floris, and Domingos while the B crew was comprised by Sam Sullivan,
Cameron Shalkowski, Jake Offermann,
Ariel Miranda, and coxswain
Shannon Dermody.
The varsity 8 took third place on Saturday with a time of 8:08.4 and fifth on Sunday by finishing in 8:10.8. Fairfield's entry included

Cameron Bowen, Phil Falco, Sam Sullivan,

The novice 8 secured a second-place finish by navigating the course in 8:19.4 with Army winning the race (7:52.0). Charlie Serpa, Kier Kaiser,
Chris Calitri, Bobby Lawler, Jake Offermann,
George Bellos,
Lev Macht-Greenberg, Rob Preli, and coxswain Meg Kirby made up the team's entry.
The Stags will return to the water this weekend when they participate in the Knecht Cup in Camden, N.J on April 13 and 14.
