FAIRFIELD, Conn.  – The Fairfield University baseball team downed in-state foe Quinnipiac University, 10-4, this afternoon in non-league action at Alumni Diamond. Junior Ryan Plourde drove in three runs and was one of four Stags to have multi-hit games.
 
Plourde extended his hitting streak to 10 games by going 2-for-5 with a stolen base. Rookie Jake Salpietro went 2-for-5 with a double, a stolen base, two runs scored and two RBI. Junior Rob LoPinto went 2-for-5 with two runs scored, one driven in, and a stolen base. Sophomore Sebastian Salvo was 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, and a run scored.
 
Senior Christian Fox picked up the win after a solid relief effort after checking into the fourth inning and staving off a Bobcat rally. Fox went 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing a hit and a walk with a strikeout. Sophomore Andrew Gallagher threw a perfect 2.1 innings of relief with a two strikeouts while Ian Tresser closed out the ninth. Freshman Aaron Howell received the no-decision in his second start of the year in which he went 3.1 innings.
 
Fairfield (7-11) got on the board in the bottom of the first inning as LoPinto led off with a single and came around to score on a groundball off the bat of Jack Giannini. The Stags added two more runs in the bottom of the second inning on a fielder choice by Salpietro and a sacrifice fly rookie Keith Skinner for the 3-0 lead. Fairfield batted around in the third inning, pushing five runs across the plate on six hits, to surge ahead 8-0.
 
Quinnipiac (7-8) cracked the scoreboard in the top of the fourth inning with a three-run effort. The Stags got two of the runs back in the bottom of the seventh inning as Plourde drove in two Stags with a bases loaded single to make the score 10-3. The Bobcats took advantage of a Fairfield error in the top of the ninth and scored the final run of the game.
 
Fairfield returns to action on Thursday, March 28 by hosting the University of Hartford at 3pm at Alumni Diamond. The Stags then hit the road for MAAC play, travelling to Rider University for a single game on March 29 at 3pm and a doubleheader on March 30 at 12pm.
